How Whatnot seller fees work
Whatnot charges a commission on the item’s sold price — 8% for most categories, less for a few such as electronics and coins. It also charges payment processing of 2.9% + $0.30 on the whole order, including shipping and sales tax.
There are no listing fees, and Whatnot offers lower commission rates as your sales grow. If you’ve qualified for one, change the rate under Fee model.
Worked example: A $25 sale with $5 shipping and 7% sales tax
- Buyer pays (incl. $2.10 tax):
- $32.10
- Commission (8% of $25):
- −$2.00
- Payment processing (2.9% + $0.30):
- −$1.23
- Whatnot pays you:
- $26.77
- Profit after $5 shipping and $7 item cost:
- $14.77
To make $15 profit with the same costs, the item needs to sell for $25.26.
- The commission is on the item only, but processing covers shipping and tax too.
- The $0.30 fixed processing fee takes a bigger share of cheap items, so $1 starts cost more than they look.
- Auction prices vary, so try a low, typical and high final price to see your range.
Common questions
- How much does Whatnot take from a sale?
- For most categories, an 8% commission on the sold price plus 2.9% + $0.30 processing on the order total. On a $25 item with $5 shipping and 7% tax that is $3.23, leaving $26.77.
- Does Whatnot charge listing fees?
- No. Whatnot only charges when something sells.
