How eBay seller fees work

eBay charges a final value fee when an item sells: 13.6% for most categories, taken from the total amount of the sale — the item price, the shipping the buyer pays and the sales tax eBay collects. On top of that there is a per-order fee of $0.40, or $0.30 when the order is $10 or less.

Some categories use other rates, such as 15.3% for books, movies and music and 13.25% for trading cards and coins. Above $7,500 per item the rate drops to 2.35% in most categories. If you use Promoted Listings, the ad rate you choose is charged on the sale as well.

Worked example: A $40 item with $6 shipping and 7% sales tax

Add a 5% Promoted Listings rate and eBay’s fees rise to $9.55, leaving $18.95 profit.

For most categories, 13.6% of the total the buyer pays (including shipping and sales tax) plus $0.40 per order. On a $40 item with $6 shipping and 7% tax that is $7.09, leaving $38.91.

Yes. The final value fee is calculated on the total amount of the sale, which includes the shipping the buyer pays and the sales tax eBay collects for the state.
What is the eBay per-order fee?
